White Oak Overview

White Oak’s students are creative, capable, insightful and thoughtful. They’re great problem-solvers. They’re funny, they’re athletic, they’re artistic and they’ve got great ideas.

What they don’t have such an easy time with is turning those great ideas into written form… into notes and outlines, and eventually into academic papers, lab reports and research reports. Math and spelling and reading are challenging to many students, as well.

All of these skills are addressed at White Oak, and they’re addressed in a way that lets students see that they really can be successful academically, and that they have a promising future. Our teachers take the time to ensure that students don’t simply understand new skills, but are able to actually demonstrate those skills in the classroom.

Programs & Services

The White Oak School, a college-preparatory educational day program, provides strong and challenging academic services to students from grades 1 – 12. The students receive instruction in small-group, language-based classes that focus on the sciences, mathematics, history/social studies, language arts, and oral expression. Each student also receives a daily, dedicated, one-to-one tutorial for 50 minutes in literacy and organizational skills. Our Speech and Language Pathologists offer consultative services to our teachers, communication support to our Oral Expression classes, and direct individual therapy to those students whose communication needs require such intervention. Various electives (culinary arts, art, photography, and pottery) help our students to explore and develop rich individual strengths and skills. In addition, White Oak School offers a variety of extracurricular activities including sports (soccer, basketball, cross-country,and ultimate frisbee), regular opportunities to participate in the Arts (Drama Club, Chorus, and Pottery Club), and an outdoor education program that offers adventures in activities such as hiking, kayaking, camping.
